GROS ISLET– Saint Lucia recorded a convincing win over Bermuda while Barbados and Guadeloupe played out a thrilling draw when League B action in the CONCACAF Nations League continued in St Lucia on Monday.
The home side bounced back from an opening round defeat against Barbados to hammer Bermuda 5-2 courtesy of a first half hat-trick from Keegan Caull.
Caull found the back of the net in the 15th, 18th and 35th minutes to give Saint Lucia a 3-0 cushion, before Ajani Burchall pulled one back for Bermuda in first half stoppage time.
Saint Lucia then put the contest to bed through goals from Shevon Bryan in the 53rd minute and a 68th minute strike from Kurt Frederick to extend their lead to 5-1.
Bermuda did get a consolation goal from Riley Robinson in the 70th minute, but it was never going to be enough for the visitors, who slumped to their second defeat in as many matches.
Meanwhile, Barbados remained top of Group B on goal difference after drawing 2-2 with Guadeloupe.
After a goalless first half, Guadeloupe opened the scoring four minutes into the second half when Djamalee Boisné’s finish to the far post from the left side of the box beat goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.
However, Barbados responded with two goals in the space of two minutes from star players Thierry Gale in the 76th minute and Niall Reid-Stephen in the 78th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
But just as it seemed Barbados was on course for victory, Boisné grabbed his second goal of the match in the first minute of injury time with a chip over Blackman from inside the box.
In the night’s other result, Cuba blanked Bonaire 2-0 to go top of Group C.
Yasnier Matos put Cuba ahead in the third minute, breaking into the box with an individual run before slotting the ball in the bottom-right corner.
They then doubled their advantage in the second half in the 49th minute, with Diego Catasus finding the back of the net with a tidy first-time finish from inside the box.
