Razor-sharp claimers go in chase of speedy Prince Amaan

A winner in open overnight-allowance winners a month ago, PRINCE AMAAN has tumbled two levels lower to face $1.5-million claimers in Saturday’s fourth event at five and a half furlongs.

Claimed at the level in May by Jason Dacosta from rival Anthony Nunes, PRINCE AMAAN has not run a bad race in 10 outings since changing hands.

The four-year-old’s consistent form culminated in his November 22 win against United States-bred CHAMPION BUBBLER in the Racehorse Aftercare Trophy at five furlongs straight.

As versatile as they come, under DaCosta’s care, PRINCE AMAAN (Sensational Slam-Fashionista) has been competing at distances varying from the straight course to seven furlongs, hardly ever outside the top four.

In 10 starts from DaCosta’s barn, PRINCE AMAAN’s worst placings were back-to-back races in which he finished seven lengths behind out-of-class foreigners, SUPERNATURAL POWER and FEARLESS FORCE, respectively.

Refitted with visor and tongue tie a month ago after an even fourth-place run behind imported stablemate DOTHRAKI and return-winner DIGITAL ONE, PRINCE AMAAN ran a cracker at five furlongs straight to upstage 4-5 favourite CHAMPION BUBBLER, who was fourth among open-allowance company in her previous race, beaten by MAMMA MIA, MONEY MARKET, and UNSPUN.

PRINCE AMAAN clocked a quick 58.3 with 122lb, allowing the foreigner 10lb. Among the runners in the line-up were ATLANTIC CONVOY, who finished seventh, returning to land last Saturday’s Ahwhofah Sprint, nailing ZULU WARRIOR at the wire.

JAMES, a strong winner for Adrian Prince at five furlongs round on October 20, beating FLYBLUEJET, clocking 1:01.0 on a sloppy track, returns sharp at exercise from a new barn, claimed by Michael Spencer.

JAMES galloped six furlongs in 1:15.4, November 29, signalling he is still on top of his game despite changing hands, making the five-year-old a potential threat should PRINCE AMAAN report short of his best.

WHISKY is another runner that has been razor-sharp since claimed from Dennis Lee for $700,000. A 10-length winner in a terrific 1:06.3 for five and a half furlongs on a track made fast by rain, WHISKY has since twice lost narrowly on $1.5m tags, outstayed by stablemate SONNY T AND CHIPPY at seven furlongs, November 16, and outsprinted by RIDGE LINER at five furlongs straight a week later.

Speed will be PRINCE AMAAN’s weapon of choice at five and a half furlongs. A sharp break from post-position three should run WHISKY and JAMES off their legs, both sitting far too close to topweight PRINCE AMAAN at the scale.
