Police Hunt Suspects After Armed Highway Robbery in Sandhill

Police are investigating a robbery near the Maxboro speed bump in Sandhill, Belize District, that led to a search in the Maskall area.  Sandeep Kumar reported that he was driving along the Philip Goldson Highway when shots were fired in his direction. A vehicle then reportedly pulled in front of him and stopped, and his grey Honda sedan was taken. Initial reports place the robbery near Mile 16 yesterday afternoon.  Police later recovered Kumar’s car in the Maskall area, along with a second vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects. Initial reports say the suspects abandoned both vehicles and ran into nearby bushes. Shots were reportedly fired toward officers during the search, prompting police to call for backup. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided this update on the investigation.
