NTUCB Calls for BlackOutBTL Protest on Friday

In related news, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize is calling on workers and the wider public to wear black on Friday, August 14, in protest against BTL’s proposed acquisition of Speednet Limited.  The call is set to be a public opposition to the transaction, which would see government-controlled BTL acquire one hundred percent of the company that operates Smart.  The NTUCB argues that the acquisition could create a monopoly that threatens consumer choice, competition and employment. Participants are being encouraged to wear black to work, school or their places of business, take photographs and share them on social media using the hashtag BlackOutBTL.
