New Vital Statistics Fees Set for March 2026 After Digitization

New fees will be implemented at the Vital Statistics Unit, VSU, beginning March 1, 2026, following a policy decision linked to the digitization of civil registry documents.  Attorney General Anthony Sylvestre explained that while fees were adjusted following the recent launch of the VSU’s online civil registry system, government has decided to temporarily revert to the pre-launch prices to give the public more time to prepare. The current fees will remain in place until the end of February 2026, after which the new charges will take effect.  Sylvestre said the increase is tied directly to the shift from paper-based certificates to digital records. Under the new system, documents such as birth and death certificates will no longer have a limited lifespan that requires repeated applications. Once digitized and securely stored, the certificates can be accessed repeatedly, significantly reducing the need for future reapplications.  While acknowledging that the increase may place a burden on applicants seeking multiple documents at once, the Attorney General noted that the long-term benefit is reduced cost and inconvenience over time. According to officials, this new digitized system is intended to provide permanent access to vital records, improving efficiency, reducing repeat visits to the VSU.
