Residents of Lords Bank and the surrounding Ladyville area now have increased access to police services following the official opening of a new police substation in the community today. The new facility was established in response to growing concerns over criminal activity and public safety in the rapidly expanding area. Authorities say the substation will strengthen law enforcement’s presence, improve response times, and enhance community policing efforts as the population of Lords Bank continues to grow. The opening forms part of broader efforts by the government and the Belize Police Department to address crime and provide greater security for residents. Area Representative for Belize Rural Central Dolores Balderamos-Garcia attended the opening, and shared her perspective on the significance of the new substation and how it is expected to benefit residents of Lords Bank and Ladyville.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Belize Rural Central Area Representative: “This is something we have wanted to do for a very, very long time. The original structure was here but it was never finished. It didn’t have windows, it didn’t have doors. And long ago we said, “Oh, we would love to make it into the police substation,” which it is now. So what spurred it was the need of the community and our willingness to try to put in the citizen’s security so people can feel good. Because unfortunately we’ve had a lot of rise in crime in the Ladyville and Lords Bank areas and the community was really pressing for it. So in terms of the response, myself as area rep, the chairman of the Lords Bank, the police in charge for this area, and of course, Minister Oscar Mira we worked at it. We have had lovely contribution from Mr. FD Williams’ company. As a matter of fact, it’s Mr. Williams who contributed the motorbike for the community, for the police, and of course, we see the finished building today.”
Following the inauguration, the Minister of Home Affairs and Enterprise, Oscar Mira, his CEO, Elton Bennett, and the Commissioner of Police, Dr. Richard Rosado, held a community meet-and-greet session in the Jane Usher area. During the engagement, residents shared their concerns about issues affecting their neighborhood and provided suggestions on how to improve safety and reduce crime in the area.
