Jaidyn Brown Gets Bail in Belize City Shooting Case

Twenty-one-year-old Jaidyn William Brown is out on bail after being charged with abetment to commit aggravated assault in connection with a reported shooting on Rio Bravo Crescent in Belize City.  Brown, a car washer and construction worker, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Police allege that on August 25, he intentionally assisted Gareth Hemmans in committing an aggravated assault upon 32-year-old technician Emory Williams.  Williams told police that he was standing outside a yard when a maroon Nissan Murano approached and slowed down. He alleged that a passenger pointed a firearm at him and fired several shots. Williams escaped injury by running behind a cement fence.  Police recovered two nine-millimetre expended shells and a fragment from the scene. The suspected vehicle was later found on Jimmy Dyer Street and impounded after another expended shell was reportedly discovered on its front passenger seat.  Brown pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of one thousand five hundred dollars, plus one surety in the same amount. He was ordered not to contact Williams or any prosecution witness, directly or indirectly. His next court appearance is set for November 5.  Hemmans, who was previously charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison until October 29.
