Final Farewell Plans Set for Veteran Broadcaster Rubén Morales Iglesias

Belize’s media and education communities continue to mourn the loss of veteran broadcaster, sports commentator, and longtime educator Rubén Morales Iglesias, whose passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from former colleagues, students, and listeners across the country.  Family members have now confirmed arrangements for his requiem mass and final viewing, which will take place tomorrow in Belize City.  According to relatives, Morales Iglesias’ body will first be taken to the Pallotti High School auditorium at approximately ten o’clock tomorrow morning, where family members, former students, colleagues, and friends will have an opportunity to pay their respects and share memories with the family. At around twelve-thirty in the afternoon, the body will then be transported to St. Joseph Parish in Belize City, where it will be available for viewing from one o’clock ahead of the thanksgiving mass scheduled for two p.m.  Following the mass, Morales Iglesias will be transported to Benque Viejo Town, where he will be laid to rest.  Former principal of Pallotti High School, Sister Clara Teul, says Morales Iglesias leaves behind a lasting legacy at the institution and among the many students whose lives he helped shape.

The veteran broadcaster and educator passed away peacefully earlier this week, leaving behind a legacy that spans nearly five decades of service to broadcasting and education in Belize. Morales Iglesias began his radio career in nineteen seventy-seven at Radio Belize, later the Broadcasting Corporation of Belize, where he became widely recognized for his engaging sports coverage in both English and Spanish, delivering commentary on football, cycling, and basketball events.  In 1998, he joined RSV Limited, the company behind Love FM and Estéreo Amor, where listeners came to know him through his morning sports reports and radio segments that aired alongside the station’s daily news programming.  Beyond broadcasting, Morales Iglesias spent nearly four decades teaching at Pallotti High School, where he taught Spanish and several other subjects while mentoring generations of students. He also played an active role in the school’s publications, guiding students involved in the Periscope newspaper and the Crossroads yearbook.  Many of his former students also remember him as a dedicated mentor and inspiring teacher who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Morales Iglesias earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Broadcast from the University of North Florida in nineteen ninety-one and remained an influential voice in Belize’s media and education sectors throughout his life.  As preparations continue for tomorrow’s requiem mass, tributes continue to pour in from across the country for a man whose voice, mentorship, and passion for communication helped shape Belize’s broadcasting and educational landscape for generations
