DOE to Reveal Findings of Belize River Fish Deaths Investigation

The Department of the Environment will meet with residents of the Belize River Valley tonight to present the findings of its investigation into the recent death of fish and other aquatic species in the Belize River.  The findings are based on the analysis of soil, water and fish-tissue samples collected during the department’s environmental monitoring. Officials are expected to explain what the testing revealed and discuss any recommendations, further assessments or additional monitoring that may be required.  Residents will also be able to seek clarification, ask questions and share their observations about the condition of the river and its aquatic environment. The department says the session is intended to promote transparency and meaningful engagement with the affected communities.  The public information session begins at seven o’clock tonight at the Double Head Cabbage Village Community Centre.
