Death Threat Against Customs Chief Found at Western Border

Police are investigating a death threat found at the Western Border this morning. The message was painted in red on a sheet tied to an entrance gate. Addressed to the “head of Customs,” it warned in Spanish: “You either leave or you die.”  Love News understands the threat was directed at Luis Betancourt, the Customs officer in charge at the border. Police have not identified who placed the message there or what prompted it.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided this update on the investigation.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “This morning police went to the cargo area of the customs department where they saw some writings, a threat on a piece of cloth. The scene was processed and we are currently conducting an investigation, reviewing video footage to see who placed that piece of cloth with the writing at the gate. Yes, there is a camera there so that is being reviewed to see what can be seen on the footage. The writing had a name so that is what we are looking at at this time. There are security guards posted in the area and security will be improved in the area.”
