Belizean Women Honored for Contributions to National Development

Several Belizean women were honored at a ceremony recognizing their contributions to national development and community leadership through the Outstanding Women’s Award program.  The event, organized by the National Women’s Commission, brought together government officials, community advocates, and members of the public to celebrate women whose work continues to positively impact communities across the country.  Among those recognized were nominees submitted by Rossana Briceño, Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children. Her nominee, Dr. Angela Joseph, was acknowledged for her professional achievements and dedication to community development.

Another nominee submitted by the Special Evoy for the Development of Families and Children was Karla Cano Turton, well-known Belizean cake designer and entrepreneur whose work has earned admiration both locally and internationally.

The keynote address was given by Justice Antoinette Moore, who emphasized the importance of recognizing women who are breaking barriers and inspiring future generations.  Meanwhile, closing remarks were delivered by Eleanor Murillo, Executive Director of the National Women’s Commission (NWC) who was also an award recipient.

The ceremony included a series of formal proceedings, beginning with the national anthem and an opening prayer. Welcome remarks were delivered by Shaijarie Rogers, followed by a poetic presentation from Tionne Talbert.  The program also featured a musical performance by Cindy Burgos and Leon Banks./
