Belize is mourning the death of one of its oldest and most celebrated citizens. Gilbert Winston Ellis, affectionately known as “Mr. Bertie,” passed away shortly after six o’clock this morning at the age of 109. The legendary cricketer, sports administrator and national award recipient had reportedly experienced several weeks of health complications. He was admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but was later discharged, allowing him to spend his final moments surrounded by family.
