Belize City Man Hospitalized with Severe Burns After Fire

Police are investigating a fire incident that has left a Belize City man hospitalized with severe burn injuries.  Reports indicate that shortly after ten o’clock this morning, authorities responded to information from the Police Control Room regarding a male individual receiving treatment for burns at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Northside Criminal Investigation Branch personnel visited the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit, where they observed 54-year-old Warren Logan, a Belizean resident of Beltex Crescent in the Belama Phase One area, suffering from extensive burn injuries.  Initial investigations reveal that sometime after one o’clock this morning, Logan, who reportedly sleeps in the yard of his residence under a makeshift tent constructed from canvas material, alerted a resident on the property that he had been burned. He was subsequently transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.  Logan later indicated that he had been smoking a cigarette prior to the incident and had discarded the cigarette butt, after which the sheet and sections of the tent reportedly caught fire, leading to his injuries.  Logan remains hospitalized in critical condition as authorities continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
