The Belize Defence Force’s annual Sports and Wellness Event got underway today at Price Barracks in Ladyville. The three-day event brings together members of the BDF, Belize Police Department, Belize Coast Guard, British Army Training Support Unit Belize, BDF Volunteers, civilians, retirees and their families. The event is being held under the theme, “Forged Through Service, Strengthened by Family, Sustained Through Wellness.” The opening activity is the Security Forces Boxing Competition, being held this evening at the Sailfish Club at Price Barracks. Warrant Officer Class Two Fidel Pop shares that boxers from the BDF, Police Department and Coast Guard are taking part in the competition.
The event continues tomorrow with the Security Forces Swimming Competition at the BATSUB Pool. Participants will compete in individual and team events, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and relay races. The three-day programme concludes on Saturday with the BDF Family Sports Day. The day’s activities include the Henry Usher Half Marathon, 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre races, 100, 200 and 400-metre races, a 4-by-100-metre relay, football, basketball, volleyball and tug-of-war. The event also includes a wellness component, with a mobile clinic and participation from organizations including the Belize Family Life Association, the Voluntary Counselling and Testing programme, the Kidney Association and the Diabetic Association.
