Police are investigating an aggravated burglary at the Novelos Bus Terminal in Belize City after two security guards were overpowered and tied up by masked assailants during the early hours of this morning. According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:20 a.m. when security officers 35-year-old Russell Moody, and 38-year-old Nelson Flowers were on duty at the terminal. Investigators say two masked men confronted the guards, one of them armed with a firearm, before binding both men with duct tape. ACP briefed the media on the information established so far.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “This morning I received a burglar report at the bus terminal. Police responded to the area where the security guards who were working at the time reported that they had been tied up by three male persons who were armed with firearms. They then took the keys for the office. They went into the office where they stole some cash and they also stole two cell phones belonging to the security guards. I do not have the exact amount but it’s not nothing over $800. Yes we are looking at surveillance footage at this time.”
Police say there were no signs of forced entry at the terminal’s main entrance. However, investigators discovered that the door to the NBC office had been forcibly opened. At this stage, authorities are still trying to determine exactly what, if anything, was stolen from inside the office.
