27-year-old man shot dead in Woodbrook

A 27-year-old man was shot dead and another man wounded after gunmen opened fire on a group along Murray Street, Woodbrook, early Sunday morning.

Police identified the dead man as Romelle Ash, of Girez Lane, El Socorro.

The injured man was identified as 28-year-old Justin Mc Guirk, of Locus Hill, Second Street, Barataria.

Police said around 12.15 a.m., a group of men was standing along Murray Street, near Republic Bank, when they were approached by several gunmen who opened fire.

Ash and Mc Guirk were struck.

Woodbrook Mobile 1 and the Port of Spain Task Force responded to the scene.

Ash was taken to the St James Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mc Guirk was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital by members of the task force. He remained warded and was receiving treatment.

Homicide Region One was contacted, and officers were processing the scene as investigations continued.
