$21,000 Reportedly Went Missing in 2023 from the Queen Street Police Station

Twenty-one thousand dollars have been reported missing from the Queen Street Police Station’s Exhibit Room, triggering an internal investigation within the Belize Police Department.  The discovery was reportedly made during an ongoing nationwide internal audit currently being carried out across all formations and units of the department. Love News understands that the audit exercise is the first comprehensive review ordered under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado since taking office in April of last year.  Preliminary information suggests that the missing money was connected to a 2023 criminal matter and had been placed into evidence at the Crimes Investigation Branch exhibit room located at the Queen Street Police Station. However, investigators reportedly uncovered discrepancies in the exhibit log book after determining that the funds had been removed without the required signature or official documentation authorizing its release.  Authorities are now attempting to establish exactly when the money went missing and who may have had access to the exhibit room during the period in question. No official statement has yet been issued by police regarding the latest incident or whether any disciplinary or criminal proceedings are being considered.  Love News understands, however, that Commissioner Rosado has directed that annual audits become standard practice across the department as part of wider efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency, and oversight within the police force.  The latest development comes just one week after Love News reported on a separate investigation within the Ministry of Immigration involving monies suspected to have been embezzled by an employee attached to the Belize City office.
