20 Year old Belize City Man Remanded Over $700 Armed Robbery

A twenty-year-old Belize City man has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being charged in connection with an armed robbery at Guan Fa Shop in Belama, where a businesswoman was held at gunpoint and robbed of seven hundred dollars.  Christian Denver Ramos, a labourer of Wagner’s Lane, appeared before a Senior Magistrate in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with one count of robbery.  The charge stems from an incident on July 25 at Guan Fa Shop on Albert Hoy Street in Belama Phase Two.  Police say thirty-year-old businesswoman Yan Mei Ma reported that she was attending to a customer at around five-forty that evening when she noticed a man dressed entirely in black, wearing a bucket hat and dark shades, waiting inside the establishment.  According to the report, after the other customer left, the man jumped over the counter, produced an object resembling a firearm and demanded money.  Fearing for her life, Ma reportedly handed over approximately seven hundred dollars from the day’s sales, placing the cash into a black backpack provided by the robber. The assailant then fled the shop and was seen running in the direction of Chetumal Boulevard.  The incident had been captured on the store’s surveillance system which were reviewed by investigators, leading to Ramos being charged with robbery.  Due to the nature of the offence, bail was denied at the Magistrate’s Court and Ramos was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on October 19.
